A Potter's Pitcher

$60.00

Unusual, wide and low pitcher, very stable in choppy seas. It was thrown in the form of a vase, then a portion of the rim was cut away, leaving the remaining rim as the spout. The upper half has a fairly conventional salt glaze, but the lower half shows complex combination of techniques, possibly involving “oil drop” tenmoku, stencils, and resist. The ergonomic handle has a button of clay applied where your thumb goes, impressed with an asterisk (presumably the maker’s mark). Very clever, over all!
