Small Awaji Vase

$60.00

This unique style of bamboo-wrapped pottery was made on the Japanese island of Awaji (between Honshu and Shikoku), between 1830 and 1939 (this particular piece lacks the required “Japan” stamp, so it may date to before 1890). It represents a dialog between traditional Japanese craft techniques, and ideas from the international Arts & Crafts movement. The split-bamboo wrapping is in unusually fine condition. On the turquoise side of celadon. Delicate and charming!
