Chestnut Go Bowl

$20.00

A vintage Japanese bowl (or box) for holding Go stones, turned from chestnut wood (kuri). Go is a strategic board game for two players, the objective being to surround more territory than one’s opponent. Go was invented in China more than 2,500 years ago, and is still played by millions, (primarily in East Asia). In a traditional Go set-up, you would have a solid wooden floor board (碁盤 goban), 2 bowls (碁笥 goke), and 361 stones (碁石 goishi), these latter made of slate and clamshell. Lacking these, this bowl is perfect for stashing all manner of small treasures!
