Child Star Collection

$200.00

A lot of 13 promotional photographs (including one duplicate) of actress, dancer, and “child star” Yolanda de Martini, taken by Meyers photography of San Francisco (stamped on the back “Theatrical Photos for Lobby Display“). The precocious thespian was apparently active in the 1930s (one photo is marked March, 1938). They represent performances at the grandest venues of San Francisco and Oakland, including the Orpheum theater, the Fox theater, the Paramount Theater, and the SF Opera House. One is signed “To Judie with love, from Yolanda de Martini,” and marked “given to me at her house” on the reverse; so presumably they belonged to an ardent fan. The images capture the remarkable moment when the natural shyness of adolescence is overcome by the need to be seen and heard, to be somebody. They would look marvelous framed and hung together, salon-style.

Approximately 8” x 10”, except for one 6.5” x 9.5”
