American comedian and actress Sarah Silverman (b 1970) began her stand-up comedy career as a student in New York City in 1992. She soon joined Saturday Night Live as a writer and performer, but was fired after one season for being too much herself. Her comedy confronts social taboos head-on, and doesn’t shy away from the uncomfortable realities of homophobia, racism, sexism, and religious hypocrisy. Silverman sometimes adopts a satirical voice opposite her own progressive and humanistic views, confusing people who don’t understand satire. Though agnostic, Silverman considers herself culturally Jewish, and often returns to her roots for inspiration. This particular quote comes from Silverman’s one-woman show "Jesus is Magic," (made into a 2005 film of the same name). In one routine, she recalls being taunted in school by Christian children, and accused of “killing Jesus.” Little Sarah responds to them, "I'm glad the Jews killed Jesus. I'd fucking do it again in a second.” While we don’t advocate the killing of anyone, we definitely appreciate the succinct sentiment. Je ne regrette rien. This is our most popular anniversary card.
