Primitive Toy Soldier

$40.00

An ancient wooden doll that that takes the concept of “primitive” to the next level. Its head and face have the most minimal of human features. Its legs are not articulated, and even lack feet. Its arms are made of wire, which may have been covered with cloth at one time (but maybe not). The only telling details are the carved suggestions of a uniform on the torso: a thigh-length frock coat, what may be a cartridge belt, and graven lines down the legs. Based on these clues, we speculate that this doll was originally intended to represent a Civil War soldier. Other interpretations are welcome!
