Serene Lady

Small, hand-carved wooden portrait of a young woman, with a most serene expression, her head slightly cocked to one side. Her collar looks 18th century, but the date and provenance are unknown. We can imagine that this little carving was a memento of someone’s mother, or perhaps a faraway love, crafted by a lonely sailor.
